Week 11: Branding & WordPress 201

In class, we talked about full stack development, and how you have to address the look and feel of project in addition to the backend code. We looked at branding, colors, and fonts/typography. We also reviewed the Posts/blogging system of WordPress and how to identify your posts/blog page to show off your assignments.

For Homework
1. Spend some time exploring Fonts at fonts.google.com and identify the typography design you want to use on your personal portfolio site. Here is also a site with suggested pairings: https://www.pagecloud.com/blog/best-google-fonts-pairings. Once you’ve identified your fonts, visit appearance>customize>typography and modify them.
2. Identify a color palette for your personal site, you can use https://coolors.co/palettes/trending to get inspired! Edit all your default colors at: appearance>customize>colors
3. If you want to make a logo for your personal brand, you can use Canva! I’ve added the video below of India’s workshop going over the basics.
4. Use the WordPress post system to create a post for each of your class assignments. Remember to add a “featured image” for each post and to create a category and add the posts to it.
5. Create and identify your posts page under settings>reading, Then modify how you would like that page to look under appearance>customize>Blog Posts. You can also modify how individual posts look by going to appearance>customize>single posts.
6. On your homepage use one of the “posts” blocks to show off your assignments!
7. The point of all of this is to get you to consider all of the publicly viewable aspects of your page and get you more fluent with the wordpress system! About half of all websites are built on the wordpress cms (content management system), so it’s important to be literate on how to build within this system!
